What it is
Unshackled Bible is an original-language scripture study platform for serious readers. Open any passage, click any word, and see its definition in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek — without leaving the verse you're reading and without paying for one of the heavyweight commercial study suites. The goal is to give serious students of scripture a clean, fast, modern reading environment with the kind of language depth that used to require a desk full of lexicons.
What we built
- Click-to-define original language tooling that surfaces Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek definitions inline, anchored to the word in context.
- Full canonical coverage — every book of the Old Testament and New Testament, with the King James translation visible by default and the architecture to support additional translations.
- Extra-canonical texts — Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, and Apostolic Fathers writings, which most consumer Bible apps don't include at all.
- A 365-day "Walk with Jesus" devotional program that gives readers a structured year-long path through the gospels.
- Bookmarks and saved passages so readers can build their own working library across sessions.
- Search with a fast keyboard-first interface (⌘K), responsive across desktop and mobile.
- Dark and light themes with a clean typographic system designed for long-form reading.
How it's built
- Framework: Next.js (React) with the App Router for fast, server-rendered pages and instant client navigation.
- Typography and reading UX: Custom designed for extended reading sessions on any device, with careful attention to line length, line height, and contrast in both themes.
- Original-language data: Lexicon data wired into the reading experience so definitions appear inline without disrupting flow.
- Performance: Engineered for fast cold loads and snappy navigation between books, chapters, and verses.

Why it matters
